Around our houses we all have objects with history. It might be your grandmother's locket or the odd looking contraption in the attic that turned out to be an old engraving machine. Maybe it was a diary passed down through generations, or an object that you found at a flea market that just spoke to you.
I grew up going to antique shows on many weekends, and learned much about everyday history from dealers and collectors patient enough to speak to a teenager with little money. What I found was that almost everything had a story, and that some of the stories were deeply personal.
Our kids will never really know what it's like to use a typewriter, phonogragh, or a Polaroid camera. Much of the music they listen to, the pictures they take, and the correspondence they produce will be digital. Now, I'd like to use those digital media to help preserve and share the stories of objects that mean something to us, or meant something to our ancestors.
Are you saving something that has a great story? Would you share it with us? This site officially opens March 1, 2012. If you have a photo and a story you'd like to share, please contact latelierdelisse AT yahoo DOT com.
